IUP College Graduation Photos

As you prepare to graduate from IUP, capturing this special moment with professional photos is a wonderful way to commemorate your achievement. After you receive your cap and gown, consider scheduling a photo session at iconic locations on campus. The Oak Grove with its stunning backdrop of trees, the picturesque Sutton Hall porch, and the historic IUP arch all serve as perfect settings for your graduation photos. You may also want to take photos at any other building on campus that holds significance for you, creating timeless memories of your time at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. These photos will not only showcase your academic milestone but also preserve the emotional connection you have with the campus as you move forward into the next chapter of your life.

college grad photos with friends

In this special time of your life, I understand the value of capturing moments with friends, which is why I offer the option to bring a few companions along to your photo session. Your 1 hour time slot can be evenly divided among friends, allowing everyone to have their share of the spotlight. Clients can view all the photos taken during the session and handpick their 15 favorites. Should they wish to share the 15 final images with their friends, they have the flexibility to do so. Additionally, clients have the opportunity to add more photos at a nominal fee of $25 per additional file.

When preparing for a college graduation photo shoot, it is essential to bring along key items that symbolize your academic journey and achievements. Be sure to pack your decorated cap and gown, which are central pieces for the occasion. Additionally, consider bringing balloons, glitter, champagne, honors cords, instruments, books, or any other props that reflect your personality, interests, or successes during your college years. These items can add a personalized touch to your photos and make them more meaningful. Moreover, feel free to invite your family, pets, significant others, and friends to join the photo session, as their presence can make the experience even more special and memorable. Capture this important milestone surrounded by the people and items that matter most to you.

Backyard Wedding | Marissa + Kyle
Jill Gearhart Photography-20.jpg

If you find yourself having to split up your ceremony and reception into two separate events, you can still have a stunning wedding outdoors with an open-air dance floor. Even though it wasn’t in their original plans, Marisa and Kyle were still able to pull off a beautiful (and safe) reception following their smaller ceremony in July. Nicole Bell hosted the beautiful wedding at her property in Marion Center. In fact, she had her own wedding there the night before so the couple was able to use much of the same rustic decor and food service! Marisa was sure to add touches to make it her own, though, and DIY’d SO much of the details, even going as far as hand-cutting and dying all the napkins and table runners! Talk about an amazing team.

There were multiple dining options by way of food trucks (another great solution to backyard receptions with limited sources of power!) and guests danced the night away among string lights and area rugs right there in the yard. Photographing in the open air in the dark of the evening is certainly a challenge, but it was one I welcomed with lots of lighting and a little bit of know-how ;)

2020 couples, or “Covid brides” as they are being nicknamed, have a unique opportunity to experience venues and locations they would have never dreamed of. With some flexibility, an open mind, and a good does of DIY, you can make pretty much anywhere a venue to host those closest to you! Enjoy some highlights of Marisa and Kyle’s party in the pasture!

Indiana PA Wedding at Home Farm Barn | Kacy + Parker
Jill Gearhart Photography-28-2.jpg

Kacy and Parker had the perfect rustic elegant wedding at the Home Farm Barn in Indiana PA. The gorgeous venue was a dream to photograph!

We started the day at the nearby Ramada hotel and after some fun including popping the champagne and jumping on the bed, then the bridal party arrived in style with the venue’s complimentary trolley service! Kacy worked a special time to have a first look with her dad into our timeline, and his reactions are incredibly sweet. She and Parker also made time to exchange gifts with each other without seeing the other before the ceremony!

One of my favorite features about Home Farm Barn is the beautiful lower barn area with huge glass walls and the beautiful grey barn doors - it was the perfect backdrop for the lovely ceremony. After we wrapped up there, we got some family photos under the beautiful floral arch, bridal party portraits in the nearby willow trees, and before you know it, it was time to party! Some night portraits and a sparkler exit finished off the perfect day!

I loved getting to know Kacy and Parker during their engagement session in the winter (and got to meet their sweet pup Winston!) which made working together on their wedding day even more special. It means so much to befriend my couples and know their stories. When I asked Kacy about her engagement story she had this to say:

“My proposal was wonderful other than me being a crab!! He instead I left my parents house to go feed animals and I was not having it because I just wanted to stay at my parents. He then begged me enough that I got so mad and just left. He took me out to our apple orchard to feed cows and told me that he wanted to take a picture of Winston and I in the sunset, so I turned around and he said “ I got it” I turned around and there he was on one knee. I BAWLED!! I knew nothing about it!!

When Parker asked my dad he started the conversation with “ Hey , Ed I have a question “ my dad replies “ whatever it is NO” I guess Parker’s face was priceless and he replied “ no, you have to say yes to me on this one because the ring is bought. Can I marry Kacy?” My dad responds “ oh yeah, I guess I can’t say no then.”

They always say you’ll marry someone just like your dad and that is so true. I couldn’t be anymore blessed to have someone just like him. Parker and I are inseparable we literally do everything together it doesn’t matter if it’s shopping or cleaning the barn we are both there with each other all the time.”

I hope you enjoy some previews of their big day! (and how about that brilliant hashtag? #ImWithStupic)

Richard + Dawn | Fairman Family Farms Wedding, Shelocta PA
Sparkler exit at barn wedding at Fairman Family Farms in Shelocta PA

Dawn and Richard had the wedding of their dreams at the beautiful Fairman Family Farms in Sheltocta, PA! When I first met Dawn and Richard, besides being super adorable and ridiculously photogenic, I quickly discovered their love of the outdoors and animals, so this elegant yet rustic venue was perfect for them.

We started the day at the Hilton Garden Inn, a favorite of brides in the Indiana area for a gorgeous getting-ready location on their wedding day. Dawns adorable nieces and super sweet bridal party made it so easy to capture beauty in every corner of the room. The girls already arrived with their hair and makeup done, so after capturing some quick detail shots and candids, all that was left was getting the stunning bride into her dress! After the finishing touches, Dawn read a letter that Richard wrote her specially for their wedding day.

After capturing a few tears and a lot of smiles, I headed to the barn venue to photograph the guys getting ready. Richard was careful to make sure his hair looked perfect, and was probably one of the most kind grooms I’ve ever had the pleasure to photograph. We snuck away around the side of the barn so he could read his letter from his bride to be, and then we were ready to start the ceremony!

I was able to grab a few wide room shots in the time in-between, which is always a treat to see your venue untouched and looking perfect with your decor. Luckily, the barn comes already decked out with lights and tulle, so you can have a magical wedding look with minimal effort. The ceremony was gorgeous, taking place in front of the venue’s signature waterfall landscaping with the beautiful barn in the background. Even though it was hot and sunny, the guests didn’t seem to mind and by the time the “I-do’s” came around everyone was all smiles.

A lot of people think that sun is great for photos, but in actuality shade is always best. As such, I was able to find a shady field across the street from the venue, which was a really nice change of pace for me since I’ve shot weddings here many times before and had yet to discover the magical light over on that side of the venue! Family photos were very important to Richard and Dawn, so much so that she even had me get updated family photos of their siblings and their families, without them in it, as a gesture of kindness. What a sweet idea!

After blazing through portraits and getting the timeline back on track after a delayed ceremony start (photographers always save the day, friends!), the bridal party came bursting through the barn doors to get the party started! I was pleasantly surprised working with a new (to me) DJ that was one of the most kind and laid back I have encountered (check his link below). I was also ELATED that we vendors had our own table and were told to eat first. A chair and a meal is something I don’t take for granted for a second! Dawn was so kind to make sure we had both.

After some dancing and fun (check out grandma getting down in the pics below), we snuck out for some sunset photos and some special moments with the beautiful horse that lives on the property. The night ended with a beautiful sparkler exit where I was able to take THE sparkler shot of my LIFE. I hope you enjoy the photos of Dawn and Richard’s special day!

Barn at Rayne Run Wedding | Gary + Carissa
Jill+Gearhart+Photography-46-4-3.jpg

If you want a rustic wedding, chances are you are looking at a barn venue for your reception, and there’s no other season like fall to have a wedding with a rustic feel! Carissa and Gary incorporated all of the most beautiful aspects of fall, rustic barns, antiques, and country life into their October wedding at the Barn at Rayne Run in Marion Center. This venue is always great this time of year - especially because of the vibrant trees that run along the creek in the back of the property - and with the addition of the antique teal blue truck this year that was stuffed with mums and pumpkins for fall, it truly can’t get anymore beautiful.

It sounds strange to say this, but not all couples are as outwardly happy and excited as Carissa and Gary on their wedding day. Right before the first look, Carissa was literally bouncing up and down with excitement and she had a HUGE smile on the entire day - even during the “getting ready” phase which can be stressful for a lot of brides. I met these friends two years ago (she’s on the ball, seriously) and couldn’t wait for this day to come almost as much as them! I learned that they have been together for 6 years, and the proposal story was incredibly sweet with a very “Carissa” response! She tells it like this:

“Gary's proposal was the most perfect idea and complete surprise at the Fireworks on July 1, 2017. I really thought he wanted to get a "new profile picture for his Facebook page" when actually he had it set up so that my sister was getting pictures of the whole thing!! Considering I truly thought he was trying to have my sister take a profile picture, I told him to "shhhheeeeh! Kee is trying to get a picture!" when he started talking to me and telling me his proposal speech. He kept talking all while thinking "Is she serious?" and eventually just got down on his knee so I would realize what was going on... then I squealed, jumped, ran away (only about 3ft away), came back, and fell to my knees in front of him with complete and utter shock and excitement! Needless to say, a solid success!!”

All of that happiness, excitement, and kindness just radiates from them, and I especially love how family is so important to them. Carissa shared her “old, new, borrowed and blue” with her family members in a way to honor them and make them a special part of her day. She planned that “Something Blue is a sweet little hanky with adorable poem from my Mom that has a tiny blue bow and blue printed poem. Something Borrowed is my Granny Smith's pearl necklace. Something Old will be lent to me by my Gram Conrad but she tells me it is from my Pap Conrad who will be watching from Heaven. Something New is my veil which Gary's mother and my Mother - In - Law To Be, Theresa, bought for me.” Not only did she plan these sentimental details, but we captured photos of each family member sharing the item and a sweet moment with Carissa.

Admittedly, I anticipated the day to be a lot more hectic than it was, but with such sweet family and bridal party members, the convenience of everything being at the same location, a fantastic second shooter, and a couple willing to do a first look, the day went flaw.less.ly. Since we had a limited amount of time between the ceremony and the reception, and because we had a big family to honor with photo combinations, Carissa and Gary opted for a first look 2 hours before the ceremony start time. We were able to knock out the first look, nearly 50 family photos, bridal party photos, and couple portraits in an hour and a half! Once the ceremony ended and the receiving line was done, we grabbed a few more portraits with plenty of time to spare for bustling the dress, restroom breaks, and getting everyone placed for the DJ to announce them in!

We danced the night away in the elegant barn with its twinkle lights and chandeliers, and even snuck outside to a neighboring hillside for some sunset portraits. Needless to say, it was pretty much a perfect, stress free wedding day for all parties involved! This wedding’s sneak peeks are breaking the internet over on facebook, so you definitely want to scroll down to see a HUGE preview of their day below!

Graystone Church Indiana, PA Wedding | Brandon + Jenna
Jill+Gearhart+Photography-31-2.jpg

Graystone church is know throughout the county as being a breathtakingly beautiful location both inside and out, so if you’re looking for a wedding venue with impressive architecture that has fairytale style (its literally a castle!), this is it.

Brandon and Jenna met online (more and more of my couples are meeting online and I think it’s SO inspiring!), and while Jenna finished up her degree and Brandon jumped into a career in police work, they both planned their June wedding. What I appreciated most about their big day is that they budgeted for the “big things” (like awesome photos and an awesome DJ!) and were able to make efficient decisions on a lot of other things. The result was a beautiful and financially smart day that their guests loved, and that they will have beautiful memories of forever!

As the girls got ready in the family room downstairs and the guys got ready in the library, we snapped candids and details, eagerly waiting for the time to come when Jenna’s dad AND grandpa would walk her down the aisle! It was such a special moment and the first time I had seen that done during a ceremony!

Brandon’s brothers, best man, and Jenna’s best friend and MOH were able to honor and serenade the couple by leading the congregation in some awesome worship songs mid-ceremony. The couple also chose a traditional unity candle and traditional vows. After the ceremony was over, the guests headed downstairs for refreshments while the bridal party and family went outside for formal photos, then bridal party photos, then finally, my favorite part - the bride and groom portraits!

Jenna and Brandon made portraits truly effortless by being willing to sit, be lifted, walk, laugh, and climb through bushes. It was so easy to capture their sweet love because they weren’t worried about the time, the dress, guests, or the million other things that go through a bride or groom’s head on wedding day. They just enjoyed the process, trusted their photographers, and ended up with some amazing images! I hope you enjoy some of my favorites from their beautiful day!

IUP College Lodge Wedding Indiana PA | Summer + Dane
Jill+Gearhart+Photography-1-2-2.jpg

The College Lodge is a great wedding venue if you’re looking for something reasonably priced, private, and surrounded by nature while still being very accessible to guests. The surrounding hiking trails and disc golf course lends itself to some great portrait spots with plenty of shade, all within walking distance to the main lodge building where you can hold your reception.

Summer and Dane’s wedding day was super easy and stress free (for the girls at least!), and even though the guys were dealing with some wardrobe malfunctions of their own, we were still able to get some great prep shots and pull everything off according to Summer’s perfectly timed time-line. Speaking of the timeline, I have never met a bridal party or family that was more organized, on-time, detail oriented, and respectful as this crew. I’m sure most of that flowed down from the beautiful professor-bride herself, but I appreciated everyone cooperation and enthusiasm! The best man, Tyler, even hiked up that giant hill everyone sled rides down just to bring us (yes US, me too!) some water bottles after the bridal party was done and the bride and groom portraits were about to start! As if that weren’t enough, I even had a name card and a chair at the reception! I definitely don’t take that for granted. (Thank you Summer!)

There were so many special details to this wedding. The groomsmen opted for “real” bow-ties because the best man, (clearly the MVP of the day) not only knew how to tie them, but gladly wanted to serve both Dane and his dad by making them look their best and tying the bowties! Summer’s details included a cameo pin from her great grandma, and makeup done by her extremely talented cousin! At the reception, Summer and Dane both shared their parent dances to songs that their parents sang to them growing up. Summer’s dad used to sing “Summer Breeze” to her, so it was a very sweet and fitting dance for them! Dane and his mom used to sing “I Remember You” by Frank Ifield while he stood on her feet and danced around the house! Lastly, there were homemade cookies for the cookie table that featured the signature recipes from their friends and family! How can you go wrong with a cookie with “grandma’s” in the title?!

Enjoy some of my favorite shots of this sweet at whimsical wedding at College Lodge!

Sibling Photo Shoot Ideas
Jill+Gearhart+Photography-1-4.jpg

If you’re looking for unique portraits in Indiana, PA, there’s nothing quite as fun as exploring new places - especially if you have to be daring and reckless to get there - with your sibling! How many of you got in trouble growing up snooping around places together that you shouldn’t have been?! These sisters were not only up for an adventurous photo session in 50mph winds (WHAT were we thinking?!), but they also didn’t bat and eye when I suggested we climb 2 stories onto the roof of the iconic Indiana Theater on the Main Street in town. (

I was luckily enough to develop a friendship with Christine back when we worked together, and her younger sister Alex is just as sweet and has become a friend over the years of their “sister shoots” we’ve all experienced together! Since Alex lives in North Carolina, this sister shoot was even more special because it celebrated the bond these two have that is stronger than all the miles between them!

I can’t give these girl enough credit for sticking through some tough shooting conditions - since we could all only be together that particular day, we made the best of it and got some really cool urban shots! If you’re into industrial (or are just into Christine and Alex!), you’ll definitely love these photos!

Indiana Country Club Wedding | Justin + Steph
untitled-25.jpg

This summer wedding at the Indiana Country club was an effortless, sweet day filled with lots of laughs, love, and PURPLE! If you love purple (who doesn't?!) you definitely want to check out how Steph and Justin effortlessly worked it into their wedding day theme!

These two worked hard to plan lots of fun little details and surprises, beyond just the killer decor. We started the day at the Hilton Garden Inn in Indiana, which is one of my favorite venues with lots of gorgeous natural light. (fun fact - I've shot several weddings here and there is notoriously "no where" to hang the dress. My second shooter saved the day and climbed on the AC unit in front of the window and help up the dress. Behold the wonder of photoshop and an amazing, dare-devil assistant!) Becca wasn't the only one to climb on things, however! Take a guess where I stood to get that jumping shot of Steph and her Maids of Honor?! (follow me on Insta to see behind the scenes!)

Steph and Justin were my dream come true when they opted to do a first look, and made it even more special by doing it at Justin's grandma's house who couldn't attend because of her health. After we did the first look between the bride and groom (with parents watching close by!) in the backyard, we went inside to get some sweet candids with grandma (they even got her a corsage!!)

The ceremony was flawless as they always are at the country club, and I just loved the floral arbor and hourglass sand ceremony! We flew through pictures and got inside for an amazing dinner and dancing from my favorite DJ's! Steph and Justin even played "The Shoe Game", which was a really cute and interactive way for their guests to share some laughs and get to know them! Download the list of questions they used and instructions on how to play here!

Steph and Justin, thank you so much for inviting us along on this journey, for sharing your bridal party snacks and perfume with me, treating us all (even my assistant) so kindly and personally, and being so willing to do whatever it took (Justin ;) ) to make the day exactly what you both wanted it to be. You make me love my job!

Senior Photo Outfit Ideas
Blonde high school senior model with white lace dress standing by a tree and sunset.

Thinking about getting your senior photos done, but worried they won't represent you accurately? I'm sharing some tips on how to dress and choose the perfect location to make sure your photos capture everything that makes you amazingly and uniquely you. When I photograph my seniors, it's one of those most fun and magical aspects of my job. I love making your photos fun, vibrant, and "different" from everyone else's.

Lots of seniors come to me because of the colorful, joyful style my photos take on. Maybe it's because I grew up in the 90's with a Lisa Frank Trapper keeper, or maybe it's because I have a penchant for all things rainbow, but one thing is for certain -  I. Love. Color. When I met Erin, after noticing her striking beauty, I couldn't help but be excited about her cool outfit choices. I always encourage my seniors to bring a variety of outfit styles from dressy to casual, colorful to neutral. Above all, I want everything about the senior session to reflect their amazing personalities. Check out Erin's awesome wardrobe and how we were able to pair her choices with the perfect backdrops!

Interested in seeing more of the cool places we ventured to? Want to see more awesome outfits? Curious about how I get to know my seniors before the session starts?

HOW TO MAKE SURE YOUR SENIOR PHOTOS HAVE PERSONALITY

It pays off in huge ways when seniors take the time to shoot me an email, message me on Facebook, text, whatever, to help me get to know them! I've posted some of my favorite questions to ask seniors below (and your answers just may help us figure out location choices!)

PAIRING OUTFITS WITH LOCATIONS

Start by going through your closet and choosing outfits that make you feel totally awesome. Don't be afraid to pair old things with brand new things as well. You want to be comfortable and confident throughout your session, so while there's definitely room to go out and splurge on a new top or shoes, mix in the tried and true favorites that really represent you. From there, we can look at the overall feel of the outfit and pair locations that make them shine! If you come with beanies and ripped skinnies, we will probably be heading to the city! If you have a flowered dress, we're going to find a field or a lake! Super colorful top? You already can guess I have colorful places around town scoped out just for you!

Having senior photos done can be a super fun, confidence boosting, and rewarding experience for everyone if you take a little time to connect with your photogrphaer and curate your outfits. This is a milestone you will look fondly back on for the rest of your life! I can't wait to make colorful memories with you!
